For many guys, there is no more classical test of strength than bench pressing a weight. Although bench presses are used by everyone, they have a sort of unique meaning among athletic man. Among serious weightlifters, the question “what you bench?” Is almost a refrain. Yet weight training is more than learning how to lift the biggest barbell. Everyone who is serious about exercising and physical health can benefit from using free weights. Having a weight bench is almost a necessity if you really want to keep your body tuned and in tip top shape.

When I did my first bench press, I was in Junior High, and I definitely had something to prove. I had a gym class and, although I was large, I was not a a jock. I was actually rather physically awkward, if you want to know the truth. The bench press gave me a place to really test myself, and show the other boys what I could do. At first, I was not very good at lifting, but soon I was really taking off. It was only a matter of time until I was tough. I was starting to look good too, and the girls were really starting to notice.

At the time, I did the bench press simply because it was what we were supposed to do. I did not know all of the benefits of doing the free weight exercises. Free weights give you a much better workout than do machines. You have to stabilize the weights while you are moving them, and this makes you develop more strength than simply having to push the bar forward in a line like with a machine. You will get stronger, faster, and look better doing it.

Nonetheless, with all of its advantages, the bench press does have some things about it that require caution. It can be quite a dangerous exercise if you do not really know what you are doing. You need to make sure to have a spotter at all times. After all, if you are using a nautilus machine and you can not complete the lift, it will not matter. You can simply get up from under the machine and move the pin to a level where you can handle it. If you are using a bench press, however, and you can’t lift the barbell off of your chest, it can literally crush you. So, when working out with barbells, hand weights, or other kinds of free lifting exercises, always be careful.

Buying my children bedding is one of my favorite things to do. You might think that I’m crazy, but it really is a lot of fun. It is not that I am so into the idea of spending a lot of money on bedroom ideas for children. I know that beds and bedding for children are pretty spendy, particularly because they have to be replaced so often as the kids continue to grow. Nonetheless, it is a sacrifice that I am willing to make. You see, helping your child to set up his or her bedroom can be a great bonding activity for any parent.

A lot of parents are too pragmatic about their kids bedrooms. They will buy bedding for children when they see it on sale, buy whatever cheap posters they think the kid will like, and bring in whatever old bed happens to be already sitting there, abandoned by an older child. I have a different approach to parenting. I believe that everything you do with your kids should be, if possible, both an exercise in learning, and an exercise in fun.

That is why, when I am shopping for bedding for children, I make it a big production. Rather than just going out and picking out some sheets and blankets, we design the whole room together. For the kids, this is a great activity in a few ways. It gives them the opportunity to express themselves creatively, makes them feel more in control of their environments, and helps build spacial reasoning skills. Of course, it does cost quite a bit more to decorate a kids bedroom in a theme, but it is worth it! All in all, it is a much more rewarding and educational experience than simply buying your kid some sheets and a blanket.

Of course, you do have to set out some ground rules before picking out the bedding for children. Your kid has to be willing to stick with a certain look for at least 6 months or a year. You do not want to be buying, say, canopy beds for kids one week and then, the next week, have to buy a whole new bed when they change their minds. This can help teach responsibility. Your kid has to learn how to stick with his decision and take responsibility. That way, he will grow up knowing that careful decision making is important.

We watch them on television. They’re the women who dream of having it all. No I’m not talking about the future politicians. Think more along the lines of those who strive for a more physical appreciation. Think Miss America, Miss USA, and Miss Universe. It’s all about the classic beauty pageant. Millions of girls dream of this spotlight, but only few succeed. Now, is it really worth all the grooming, preparation and effort to wear this crown? Well, that all depends on the individual and her life goals. Do you have what it takes to win?

I’ve never been a big fan of the typical beauty pageant scene. Sure, I like watching the swimsuit part on television, just like every other guy on the planet, but I really don’t see the point. Girls compete in a «beauty pageant» for what exactly? To be recognized as beautiful and important? Furthermore, where in the world does the swimsuit part fit in? This is totally there to encourage men to watch. That’s my opinion anyway. But hey, it certainly works. Anyway, I once dated a girl who was completely consumed with the beauty pageant process. She was destined to become Miss USA. Not miss America. There is a different you know. Miss America is simply Miss America. Miss USA, however, can go on to compete for the Miss Universe crown. Got all that? Oh, and let’s not forget about Miss Teen USA. This makes it possible for young women to begin competing seriously at an early age. Okay, back to my ex-girlfriend. She was obsessed with the traditional beauty pageant. She was determined to become Miss North Carolina, and then go on to compete in the Miss USA pageant. Unfortunately for her, she bombed and didn’t even make the final ten. Oh well, what can you do. Sadly this had a negative effect on her self-esteem thereafter. This is something all parents should remember about beauty pageants. Although they can make your daughter happy and proud, they can also crush their self-esteem in a heartbeat.

Being a parent myself, I can’t say that I will encourage my daughter to enter a beauty pageant when she is older. I don’t care how often people tell me she’s beautiful. She can clearly be beautiful and confident without the burden of a beauty pageant lifestyle.

Many of us love the great outdoors with a passion. Not much can vie with Mother Nature and all her wonders. But as much as we enjoy hitting the trails on our mountain bikes, camping out beneath the stars and hiking the countless wooded paths, we have to keep something in mind. The woods are not ours. They belong to the creatures who inhabit them. Some of these creatures are even a bit frightening if we encounter them personally. Have you ever come face-to-face with a Kodiak grizzly bear? This is no joke! If you’ve seen that flick «The Edge,» then you definitely know where I’m coming from. So here’s the deal; it’s time to go prepared. What you need for those bouts with the great outdoors is a can of bear spray. This stuff will get the job done!

Okay, you are probably not so likely to encounter a vicious bear in your lifetime, but it goes without saying that you’d want to be prepared if you did. Your very existence could certainly depend on it. Anyway, let’s step back into the more common urbanized jungle. The one you are familiar with. You trudge the streets and sidewalks of this habitat on a daily basis. And although you’re not likely to encounter a grizzly, you just might find yourself face-to-face with an assailant of some sort. Maybe he’s after your money and jewelry, or maybe he’s after your life. Either way, you need to be prepared for anything. Hummingbirds flutter by every once in a while, and butterflies are also frequent visitors to the garden. It just goes to show you, sometimes the most pleasant environments are right where you live.

Of course, a beach chair requires little bit more portability than your average outdoor recliner. When you are picking one out to carry to the beach, finding one that can be easily transported is one of the most important issues. Believe me, it is really a letdown to buy a new recliner, only to realize that you can’t fit it in the car along with the kids, the picnic, the beach ball, and the rubber raft. Just because you have to find a portable one, however, doesn’t mean you can’t find a good one. Many of the best beach chairs are actually extremely collapsible. If you can find one of the fancy canvas and metal models, you can fold it down smaller than a typical folding chair and stick it in the back of the car. Although it might cost a bit of money, it is definitely worth it for the convenience of being able to take it with you on the road.
